Just like milk and sour cream, socks and shoes, shocks and struts, and DVD players and Televisions, wigs and hairpieces are closely related, but they are not exactly the same thing.

While you may not think it is important to know what the exact difference is between wigs and hairpieces, knowing the difference will help you narrow your search as you look for the proper head covering.

• Wigs – A wig is defined as a manufactured covering of natural or synthetic hair for the head. Wigs are typically longer and styled in a variety of ways. This feasibly could be true of some wigs and hairpieces.
• Hairpieces – A hairpiece is essentially supplementary hair. Usually a hairpiece covers only a part of your head, or serves as an extension to existing hair. Men with small bald spots, for example, may wear a hairpiece to cover it up.

The differences between wigs and hairpieces are not enormous, but it is always helpful to know exactly what you are talking about. Especially when it comes to something as important as your hair
