Wigs

WigsPerhaps you have seen movies that portray people wearing wigs in the 1600s and 1700s. You know, the men in it are wearing long, curly, white wigs. It seems the whiter the wig, the more important you were in those days.

While you may think wigs came about around this time, you would be wrong. As a matter of fact, the first known wigs were worn by Egyptians hundreds of years earlier as a protection to keep the sun from burning their shaved heads.

Since that time, wigs have evolved, but only recently have they become so varied in their styles and choices.

In the 18th century, wigs became popular choices as official parts of uniforms. This applied to people like generals in the military and court justices.

It wasn’t until the mid and late 20th century that wigs became popular and accessible to all. One of the things that paved the way for this was the free-thinking of the 1960s. The other thing that helped this along was the development of synthetic wigs, which made hairpieces affordable to everyone.

Wigs are also now used as a way of increasing self-confidence. A bald man does not have to live life as a bald man if he chooses not to. Wigs are likely to continue to develop and change and trends indicate that they will become increasingly popular.
