The definition of a hair piece is a foundation which is put over the area of the head that is balding The hair in a hair piece has been placed into the foundation by hand, one hair at a time. This is the definition of the typical hair piece for men. A wig, which is what mostly women wear, differs slightly. Some aspects are alike. The same process of meticulously placing each hair onto the foundation is followed, however wigs tend to cover all of the head. A hair piece (or system) will just cover the balding area of the scalp. Wigs usually have an elastic band near the nape of the neck to ensure a snug fit.
